You can wait around for your dreams to come true. Or you can take action and start actively working toward them.

I do have a proper desk of my own in my chamber, with an extra screen and a reasonably good office chair—but this sofa in Pirtti is something else entirely. A candle on the table, the evening sun in the windows, the ticking of an old wall clock from the kitchen as the only background sound. This is where I often find myself, when I feel like sitting down for a while.

I am, finally, Home. As I share on the Story of Mattila page as well, this handsome yellow wooden house in the middle of the village of Impiö has been important to me all my life. First my grandparents' place, then my home, then my uncle’s place—and now, at last, my very own home.

Home. The place where, as you draw near, your heartbeat slows and it somehow becomes easier to breathe. And where you can always return.

I moved to Impiö in August 2025. Before that, when the decision to buy Mattila was already clear but many practical matters were still underway, I spent several weekends here. I warmed up the old outdoor sauna, soaked in the atmosphere in Pirtti, wandered from room to room, and let the memories flow through me.

After moving to Mattila, a new kind of life began. One calm, still evening in August, I set out from the shore at Mattila, paddling on a SUP board. The silence was complete—just that kind of silence found in nature, where there are sounds, but no noise, no disturbance. A pike splashed. A swan called from behind the point. The gentle lapping of water against the board. I sat down and breathed. I wondered, how can the world be this beautiful? If only I didn’t have to leave this place… And that’s when it hit me. The realization that I no longer have to leave. I am Home.

And then I cried. Out of joy, happiness, and gratitude.

Sooner or later, I had to return to shore—but after that, I was finally able to begin building the next chapter of my dream: bed and breakfast at Mattilan talo.
